Opium Cultivation Eradicated in Manipur

In the hilly regions of Kangpokpi district, security forces have successfully eradicated opium cultivation spanning 67 acres. This information was disclosed by the police in a statement on Monday.


A joint operation was conducted by security forces, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and the Forest Department on Friday and Saturday.


According to the police statement, "Opium cultivation was destroyed across 67 acres in the hills of Makui Ashang, Lalooi, Wakotfai, Chalaijang, and surrounding areas of Kangpokpi district."


Meanwhile, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh praised the decision of Manipur's Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and the state government to eliminate opium cultivation in various hilly areas of the state.


He noted that this initiative aligns with the Prime Minister's vision of a 'Nasha Mukt Bharat' (Drug-Free India).


In a post on X, Singh expressed, "I commend the government and Governor Ajay Bhalla for their swift and decisive action in eradicating opium cultivation in various mountainous regions."


He added, "This initiative is in line with the Prime Minister's vision of a drug-free India, and it is encouraging to see Manipur actively contributing to this national mission. I urge officials to continue such operations in all sensitive areas of the state to prevent any region from becoming a haven for drug-related activities."
