Designer Tailor Faces Legal Action Over Delayed Blouse Delivery

It's a common experience for many of us that when we give clothes to a tailor, there's often a delay in getting them back. This scenario is relatable to many households. However, a recent incident in Ahmedabad has taken a different turn. A woman decided to take legal action against a tailor for not delivering her blouse on time. Let's delve into the details of this case.

The incident began when a woman from Ahmedabad ordered a blouse to be made for a family wedding, paying an advance of ₹4,395 for the design and fabric. The blouse was supposed to be completed by December 24. Unfortunately, the tailor failed to deliver the blouse on time, showing negligence in fulfilling the order. Despite her requests for the blouse to be ready before the wedding, the deadline passed without any progress.

Court Imposes Fine for Delay
Frustrated by the lack of response, the woman sent a notice to the tailor, but received no reply. Consequently, she filed a complaint with the Ahmedabad Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. During the hearing, the commission noted that the tailor's failure to complete the work on time indicated a lack of service quality, which caused the woman mental distress.

Compensation Ordered Within 45 Days
In light of the circumstances, the court ordered the tailor to refund the ₹4,395 along with 7% annual interest. Additionally, the tailor was instructed to pay ₹7,000 as compensation for the mental anguish and legal expenses incurred by the woman. This amount must be paid within 45 days.
