Designer Tailor Faces Legal Action Over Delayed Blouse Delivery in Ahmedabad

Whenever we hand over clothes to a tailor for stitching, delays are often expected. This scenario is common in many households, but a recent incident in Ahmedabad has taken a different turn. A woman filed a lawsuit against a designer shop on CG Road after her blouse was not delivered on time. Let's delve into the details of this case.

The incident began when a woman from Ahmedabad ordered a blouse to be made for a family wedding, paying an advance of ₹4,395 for the design and fabric. The blouse was supposed to be ready by December 24. However, the tailor failed to deliver it on time, neglecting the order completely. Despite her requests for timely completion, the blouse was not ready as promised.

Court Imposes Fine for Delay
Frustrated by the delay, the woman sent a notice to the tailor, but received no response. Consequently, she lodged a complaint with the Ahmedabad Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. During the hearing, the commission noted that the tailor's failure to complete the work on time indicated a lack of service quality, causing the woman mental distress.

Compensation Ordered Within 45 Days
In light of the circumstances, the court ordered the tailor to refund the ₹4,395 along with 7% annual interest. Additionally, the tailor was instructed to pay ₹7,000 as compensation for the mental anguish and legal expenses incurred by the woman. This amount must be settled within 45 days.
