The motive behind the murder of the housemaid, who had been employed for 10-12 years, remains unclear.
Dr. Gupta, who has worked at several prominent dermatology clinics in Delhi, is accused of committing the crime on the terrace while his teenage son was inside the flat. Medical professionals from AIIMS reported that the 45-year-old victim, Meena Halder, died from severe neck injuries. Despite extensive questioning, Gupta claimed he killed the maid because she brought negative energy that affected his son's studies. An investigator, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that Gupta felt disrespected in his own home, despite repeatedly requesting Halder's dismissal.

The investigator further noted that Gupta expressed frustration over not being heard regarding his request to terminate Halder's employment, which led to his violent outburst. He claimed there was no premeditation involved in the attack. Their son was questioned and stated he had no idea about his father's actions. Gupta's wife mentioned that discussions about Halder's employment had occurred, and Gupta had asked for her removal, but no arguments or disputes followed when she refused.
