Dengue Cases Surge in Manipur: Over 2,300 Infections Reported

Imphal, Oct 13: This year, Manipur has recorded a total of 2,332 dengue cases, with one reported death, as per the latest health report.

The data, covering the period from January 1 to October 11, indicates that tests were conducted on 5,613 individuals.

This represents a significant rise of 979 cases compared to the same timeframe last year, which saw 1,353 infections across the state.

Imphal West has been identified as the area with the highest number of cases, totaling 1,679, followed by Imphal East with 363 cases.

The districts of Bishnupur and Thoubal reported 68 and 63 cases, respectively, with the only fatality occurring in Bishnupur.

In the hill districts, Senapati recorded 45 cases, while Ukhrul had 23, Churachandpur reported 3, and Kangpokpi had 2 cases.

Last year, a similar spike in dengue cases was noted during this period, particularly affecting Imphal West and Imphal East.

At that time, Health Minister Sapam Ranjan Singh remarked that the overall incidence was relatively low and called for community efforts to mitigate further outbreaks.

Dengue is a viral illness spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, leading to symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, joint and muscle pain, nausea, and skin rashes.

In severe instances, it can escalate to hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome, which can be life-threatening if not treated promptly.
