Request for CBI Inquiry

Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, has formally approached Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the disappearance of a couple from Indore in Meghalaya. The case gained national attention following the discovery of Raja Raghuwanshi's body and the ongoing search for his wife, Sonam Raghuwanshi. In a post on the social media platform X, CM Yadav expressed solidarity with the grieving family, stating, "Madhya Pradesh stands with Sonam Raghuwanshi's family during this difficult time." He also mentioned that he had personally communicated with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya regarding the situation.

Ongoing Coordination Efforts

Yadav assured that senior officials from Madhya Pradesh are in constant coordination with their counterparts in Meghalaya to closely monitor the developments. He stated, "I have requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to order a CBI investigation into this matter. Every possible effort is being made to ensure the safe return of Sonam Raghuwanshi." This incident relates to the couple who went missing on May 23 during their honeymoon in Shillong. Raja's body was later found in a valley near Sohra, while Sonam remains unaccounted for.

Family's Plea for Justice

The family of 25-year-old Sonam Raghuwanshi, who went missing in Meghalaya during her honeymoon, had previously urged the central government to assign the case to the CBI. This appeal comes amid growing frustration over the perceived negligence and ineffective investigation by the Meghalaya police. Sonam and her husband, Raja Raghuwanshi (29), disappeared shortly after checking out from a homestay in Nongriat village in the East Khasi Hills district on May 23. Raja's body was recovered on June 2 from a deep gorge near a waterfall, approximately 20 kilometers from the homestay. The Meghalaya police have since registered a murder case, but no leads have emerged regarding Sonam's whereabouts.
