A Delta Connection flight encountered a medical emergency when the first officer briefly lost consciousness while landing. This incident took place on Saturday, May 23, during a flight operated by Endeavor Air, which was en route from Madison, Wisconsin, to Detroit, Michigan. As the aircraft neared Detroit, the first officer became incapacitated, leading the captain to declare an emergency situation.

According to air traffic control audio reviewed by various sources, the captain communicated, “Declaring a medical emergency, my first officer’s incapacitated,” before receiving clearance to land. The aircraft landed safely and proceeded to the gate, where paramedics were on standby. Fortunately, the first officer regained consciousness and was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. There were no reported injuries among passengers or crew members.

Delta Air Lines confirmed the incident in a statement, reiterating that safety is their utmost priority. A spokesperson for Delta remarked, “Safety comes before all else at Delta. We commend the professionalism of the Endeavor Air crew and thank the first responders for their assistance.” Flight data indicated that the flight arrived approximately 20 minutes early after a journey lasting about an hour.

This incident adds to a series of medical emergencies involving flight crews. Recently, a Jet2 flight from Tenerife to Birmingham had to divert to Porto, Portugal, after one of the pilots felt unwell. Passengers noted a sudden altitude drop during the emergency landing, although the airline assured that safety was never at risk. Delta has not disclosed the identities of the crew members involved in the recent event.
