This past weekend, Delta Airlines experienced significant operational challenges, resulting in hundreds of flight cancellations. While competitors like American, United, and Southwest managed to operate smoothly, Delta struggled with a staggering number of cancellations, primarily attributed to 'crew restrictions.'

On Friday, May 1, Delta canceled 157 flights, which accounted for about 4% of its daily schedule, and delayed an additional 631 flights. The situation worsened on Saturday, with 204 more cancellations by 4 p.m. ET, raising the cancellation rate to 6% and resulting in 363 delays. In comparison, United Airlines canceled only 24 flights on Friday and nine on Saturday, while American Airlines reported minimal disruptions.

Interestingly, Spirit Airlines also faced a complete shutdown of operations that day, canceling all 277 of its flights, but for entirely different reasons.
