Delhi's Environmental Campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'

New Delhi, June 9: Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, alongside Minister Ashish Sood, participated in the environmental initiative 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' by planting saplings to honor their mothers, thereby supporting the green movement.

CM Gupta selected a sindoor plant, symbolizing care and devotion, while Minister Sood opted for a mango tree, representing abundance and longevity.

During the event, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted the significance of this campaign and criticized the previous administration's lack of action.

"The Prime Minister initiated this campaign last year, and we have been planting trees in Delhi since then. Various workers and social organizations have been involved, but the former government failed to advance this project through the Delhi Government's platform, despite its crucial importance for the environment. I am pleased that the second phase of 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' has commenced, and all departments, schools, and institutions will participate in this tree-planting effort," she remarked.

This tree-planting initiative serves not only as an environmental effort but also as a tribute to mothers and Mother Earth, showcasing the government's renewed dedication to ecological sustainability.

The campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' was officially launched on World Environment Day (June 5) as the second phase of a movement initiated by the Prime Minister.

It encourages citizens to plant a tree in honor of their mothers or Mother Earth.

This year's initiative will run from June 5 to September 30, with a goal for each school to plant at least 70 saplings.

Designated planting areas include school grounds, open lands nearby, village panchayat-designated zones, regions near water bodies, public spaces, parks, smart city areas, city forests, green belts, and roadsides.
