Delhi Women Celebrate Raksha Bandhan with Chief Minister, Emphasizing Economic Empowerment

Celebration of Raksha Bandhan at Delhi Assembly

New Delhi, August 7 - Women from various parts of Delhi gathered on Friday at the Delhi Assembly to tie rakhi on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's wrist, celebrating the recently launched Delhi Lakshmi Scheme as a significant step towards women's dignity and economic empowerment, as reported by officials.

On the first day of the Assembly's monsoon session and just before Raksha Bandhan, a large number of women assembled to adorn the Chief Minister with garlands.

According to an official statement, the new initiative is expected to boost women's confidence and provide financial support to families. The Delhi government initiated the Delhi Lakshmi Scheme on August 1, which aims to provide eligible women with ₹2,500 per month. As of Friday night, nearly 487,181 registrations had been completed under the scheme, with 199,679 women successfully submitting their applications.

While congratulating the women in the Assembly, Gupta remarked that the rakhi tied by them symbolizes not just a sacred thread but also trust, affection, and responsibility. She emphasized that the dignity, safety, and empowerment of every sister and daughter in Delhi are among her government's top priorities. The Chief Minister stated that the Delhi Lakshmi Scheme is more than just a financial assistance program.

It is an initiative aimed at promoting respect, security, and self-reliance among women. She assured that the government is committed to ensuring that every eligible woman benefits from the scheme through a transparent, simple, and timely process. Gupta also mentioned that her administration will continue to implement welfare initiatives related to women's education, healthcare, self-employment, and social security, striving to ensure that eligible women receive their benefits.
