This welcomed change brought relief to residents who had been enduring a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring to 45 degrees Celsius in some areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that this respite from the heat will continue, as more rainfall is expected throughout the week from June 16 to June 22.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for Sunday, June 15, predicting thunderstorms, lightning, and winds reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h. While the night may bring hot and humid conditions, the sky is expected to be partly cloudy, with wind gusts potentially hitting 60 km/h during thunderstorms. Currently, maximum temperatures in Delhi are hovering between 41-43°C.

The IMD forecasts that the southwest monsoon could reach parts of central, eastern, and northwest India between June 12 and 18, with significant advancement into North India, including Delhi, anticipated between June 19 and 25.
