Enhanced Traffic Management for Holi

On Holi, which falls on Wednesday, the Delhi Traffic Police will deploy personnel at around 134 key intersections across the city. They will enforce strict measures against drunk driving, and in severe cases of rule violations, driving licenses may be suspended, as stated by an official on Tuesday.

The police have issued a comprehensive traffic advisory aimed at curbing offenses such as driving under the influence, speeding, reckless driving, running red lights, riding two-wheelers with three passengers, riding without helmets, and performing stunts on two-wheelers. Special inspection teams will be stationed at major intersections and sensitive routes.

According to the directives from the Supreme Court's committee on road safety, individuals caught driving under the influence, violating red lights, using mobile phones while driving, or engaging in dangerous driving practices may have their driving licenses confiscated and suspended for a minimum of three months.

If vehicles are found to be operated by minors or unauthorized individuals, action will also be initiated against the registered owner of the vehicle. Dinesh Gupta, the Additional Police Commissioner of Traffic, emphasized that extensive arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of both pedestrians and drivers.

Gupta mentioned, "In light of the Holi festival, the Delhi Traffic Police has rolled out a detailed traffic management plan. Our personnel will be stationed at approximately 134 key intersections. Senior officials will oversee the arrangements in major areas. Our primary goal will be to prevent drunk driving."

He added that strict actions will be taken against those riding without helmets, driving in the wrong direction, or engaging in dangerous driving behaviors.

Gupta reiterated, "We will make every effort to prevent traffic rule violations, and appropriate actions will be taken wherever violations are detected. The advisory also states that PCR vans and local police teams will assist traffic personnel in enforcing the rules throughout the city.

He further warned that violations of traffic rules captured on social media will not be overlooked. "If videos or photos uploaded on social media show traffic rule violations, we will take action, and we will continuously monitor this situation," he stated.
