Delhi Set to Welcome New Cruise on Yamuna River
Exciting Developments for Delhi's River Tourism
On Monday, Delhi's Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra shared an image of a cruise currently being constructed in Mumbai, which is set to operate on the Yamuna River. The cruise is expected to arrive in Delhi after January 20, with an inauguration planned by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in February. Mishra noted that the cruise is nearly complete and will depart for Delhi on January 20, taking approximately four to five days to reach its destination.
The minister announced that residents of Delhi will soon have the chance to enjoy a cruise experience similar to that of Goa. This initiative will feature a starting point equipped with water sports and various recreational activities. He further mentioned that a jetty has been constructed at Sonia Vihar, with the initial boarding point located at Wazirabad. Each cruise trip will last an hour and accommodate up to 40 passengers, providing a center for water sports and entertainment activities. The aim is to offer a Goa-like cruise experience right in Delhi.
Infrastructure Development for River Tourism
Previously, in November 2025, the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, along with Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena and Minister Kapil Mishra, inspected ongoing works related to the Yamuna ferry and tourism infrastructure project. The Yamuna River has been designated as National Waterway-110 (NW-110), spanning approximately 1,080 kilometers from Jagatpur in Delhi to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. To enhance inland waterway transport and promote local tourism, the ministry is developing essential infrastructure along a 6-7 kilometer stretch between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur in the national capital.
