Delhi Premier League T20 Season 2 Approaches

The Delhi Premier League (DPL T20) is preparing for its second season, generating immense enthusiasm within Delhi's cricket community. The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has introduced new regulations, clarified player categories, and outlined auction purse structures.

Auction Dates Announced

The men's player auction is set for July 6, followed by the women's auction on July 7, both occurring in New Delhi and available for live streaming on FanCode. This season promises to be more expansive and inclusive than its predecessor.

No Age Restrictions for Players

In a progressive move, the DDCA has announced that there will be no age limits for participants in the auction. This opens opportunities for U-16 players to compete alongside experienced cricketers, significantly benefiting grassroots talent development.

Men’s Auction Structure: Rs 1.5 Crore Per Franchise

Each of the six original franchises will enter the auction with a budget of Rs 1.5 crore. The player categories are as follows:

Marquee Players (19): Includes former or current Indian internationals and IPL players.

Category A (35): DDCA-registered first-class and ex-IPL players.

Category B (105): Players aged U-23, U-19, and U-16.

Category C (361): Regional league performers.

Retention Rules Explained

Teams can retain one player from any category, with the following purse deductions:

Marquee: Rs 21 Lakhs

Category A: Rs 10 Lakhs

Category B: Rs 4.5 Lakhs

Category C: Rs 1.5 Lakhs.

Right to Match (RTM) Strategy

Each team is permitted one RTM card for players in Categories A, B, or C, while marquee players are excluded from this option. New franchises will not have access to RTMs.

New Franchises' Opportunities

The two new teams joining the DPL will also have a chance to select one player from any category after the retention phase. If multiple teams are interested in the same player, the one willing to pay more will secure the selection.

Women’s Auction: Enhanced Competition

Each women's franchise will operate with a purse of Rs 75 lakhs, with the player pool structured as follows:

Marquee Players (7): Comprising India internationals and top DDCA talents.

Category A (18): First-class cricketers.

Category B (34): U-23 and U-19 players.

Category C (96): Regional performers.

Women’s Retention Guidelines

Teams can retain one player with the following deductions:

Marquee: Rs 10.5 Lakhs

Category A: Rs 6 Lakhs

Category B: Rs 2.5 Lakhs

Category C: Rs 1 Lakh.

Each team also receives one RTM, applicable only to Categories A, B, or C.
