Delhi Police Uncovers Over 400 Fake Social Media Accounts Linked to Protests

Delhi Police has made significant revelations regarding the misinformation circulating on social media about the ongoing protests by the Cockroach People's Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar. According to the police, their investigation has identified over 400 social media accounts allegedly operated from Pakistan, which have been blocked for disseminating AI-generated fake content, deepfake videos, edited images, and misleading posts.

DCP (Central) Rohit Rajbir Singh stated that the investigation revealed a coordinated effort by several Pakistan-based social media accounts to spread false and misleading information related to the Jantar Mantar protests. He mentioned that the Delhi Police is actively collaborating with relevant agencies to identify additional accounts involved in this misinformation campaign.

So far, more than 400 accounts have been blocked for attempting to mislead the public through AI-generated content, deepfake videos, edited photos, and other deceptive materials. The investigation also uncovered that some of these accounts were active in spreading false information during the Sindoor operation. Furthermore, allegations have emerged that these accounts edited official statements from senior officials and manipulated visual content.

DCP Rohit Rajbir Singh urged the public not to blindly trust every post that goes viral on social media. He emphasized that a video, photo, or post does not become true merely because it is widely shared. It is crucial to fact-check any information before believing or sharing it. He noted that the Delhi Police is continuously monitoring social media and is sharing accurate information regarding fake news, AI-based propaganda, deepfake videos, edited clips, and misleading posts through their official platforms to help people distinguish between truth and falsehood.

The revelations surrounding the ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar serve as a serious warning about the dangers of misinformation in the digital age. Forming opinions or spreading content based solely on viral material can not only lead to confusion but also pose challenges to societal and national security. Therefore, the Delhi Police has appealed to citizens to rely only on verified and official sources and to confirm any suspicious content before sharing it.

Additionally, the Cockroach People's Party (CJP) has leveled serious accusations against the Delhi Police. In an official statement, the party claimed that an atmosphere of "siege and fear" has been created around Jantar Mantar. The CJP alleges that citizens attempting to reach the protest site are being detained, intimidated, and that volunteers bringing essential supplies such as food, water, and medicine are being obstructed. The party asserts that for the past month, students, parents, teachers, and ordinary citizens have been peacefully protesting against issues like exam paper leaks, irregularities in recruitment processes, and student suicides, but instead of facilitating democratic protests, the police are adopting a repressive stance. The CJP has demanded that the Delhi Police Commissioner immediately lift the alleged restrictions, ensure essential services reach the protesters, and allow the uninterrupted movement of volunteers, family members, lawyers, journalists, and medical personnel. However, there has been no immediate response from the Delhi Police regarding these allegations.
