Delhi Police Await Official Guidelines on NEET Protest Cases

New Delhi: In light of the government's commitment to withdraw cases against protesters involved in the NEET paper leak incident, sources from the Delhi Police indicated on Sunday that they will proceed with further actions only after receiving formal directives from the relevant authorities.

Currently, 15 FIRs have been filed across various police stations in New Delhi concerning the violence that erupted on July 20 and other related protests.

During a joint press briefing with representatives from the Cockroach Janata Party, Union Minister JP Nadda announced that the government would officially retract the FIRs against the demonstrators and provide a written confirmation of the agreed-upon demands by Tuesday.

"We will follow the guidelines and official instructions once they are received from the competent authority," the source stated.

However, it was noted that the decision to withdraw the cases would not impede the ongoing investigation into the alleged broader conspiracy behind the unrest.

Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage, digital evidence, mobile records, and witness testimonies to piece together the events and identify individuals suspected of orchestrating or participating in the violence.

Additionally, over 2,500 individuals with criminal histories have been identified through the facial recognition system (FRS).

The clashes on July 20 resulted in injuries to more than 200 police officers and 70 protesters, alongside damage to several government vehicles and public property.

The source emphasized that the investigation into the conspiracy will persist regardless of the proposed withdrawal of FIRs, and all evidence gathered will be scrutinized as part of the ongoing inquiry.
