Police Denies Allegations of Assault During Protest

New Delhi: On Monday, the Delhi Police dismissed allegations circulating on social media that claimed officers had assaulted a woman, reportedly Geetanjali Agmo, the spouse of activist Sonam Wangchuk, and injured numerous protesters, including a young girl aged 12, during the 'Chalo Sansad' demonstration in the capital. Authorities urged the public to refrain from sharing misleading information.

The police's response followed a statement from Saurav Das, the chief spokesperson for CJP, who posted on X, asserting that Geetanjali had her hair pulled by police and that a 12-year-old girl had suffered a serious head injury, along with claims of 40-50 other injuries.

The police issued a fact-check on X, categorically denying the allegations and emphasizing that the claims circulating on social media were unfounded. They reiterated their request for the public to avoid spreading unverified information.

"The information being shared in these posts is false. We urge everyone not to disseminate or amplify misleading claims," the police stated.

On the same day, thousands of protesters gathered in central Delhi, attempting to march towards Parliament, but were met with police using tear gas and batons. The protests, which initially focused on alleged examination irregularities and paper leaks, intensified following Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike.
