Delhi Police Investigates Social Media Influencer Over False Mosque Demolition Claims
Inquiry Launched Against Influencer for Spreading Rumors
Following the identification of ten influencers by the Delhi Police, a female social media influencer has been summoned for questioning. She allegedly spread false information regarding the demolition of the Faiz-e-Elahi Mosque near Turkman Gate during an anti-encroachment operation ordered by the court.
A senior police official stated on Thursday that the influencer was called in after the police's social media monitoring team reviewed a video in which she purportedly claimed that the mosque had been demolished at Ram Leela Maidan in Delhi.
The official mentioned that the team identified at least ten social media accounts, including one belonging to Salman, that were disseminating rumors about the operation. The content being shared was misleading and factually incorrect, inciting violence and leading to stone-pelting incidents against police personnel.
Additional Police Commissioner (Central) Nidhin Valsan clarified that he had personally met with over 120-130 clerics just days before the demolition.
Another official indicated that the social media team is closely monitoring all platforms and keeping a vigilant eye on the content being circulated. The official emphasized that misinformation will not be tolerated, and those found spreading such content will be summoned for questioning.
