Delhi Police Takes Action Against Misinformation

The Delhi Police have uncovered several social media accounts linked to Pakistan that are disseminating false information regarding the protests against the NEET paper leak. During a press briefing, DCP Central Rohit Rajbir Singh announced that over 400 such accounts have been identified and blocked due to their involvement in spreading AI-generated content, deepfake videos, edited images, and other misleading information related to the protests. These accounts were found to be active during 'Operation Sindoor'.

Formation of Special Task Force

In response to alleged irregularities in public examinations and the paper leak, the Delhi Police has established a Special Task Force (STF) under the Crime Branch. DCP Central indicated that this team will be led by officers at the DCP level, with oversight from the Special CP (Crime). He further revealed that the investigation has uncovered that certain social media accounts operated from Pakistan are spreading misinformation. The police are collaborating with relevant agencies to identify additional accounts, having already blocked over 400 handles for their role in disseminating misleading AI-generated content and deepfake videos.

Misinformation During Operation Sindoor

DCP Singh elaborated that some identified accounts were actively involved in spreading misinformation during 'Operation Sindoor', which was initiated in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam in May 2025, aimed at targeting terrorist networks in Pakistan and PoJK. These social media accounts attempted to mislead the public by altering official statements from senior officials and manipulating visual content.

Public Advisory on Misinformation

DCP Central urged the public to verify the authenticity of any information before trusting or sharing it, especially in light of the misleading information circulating regarding the protests at Jantar Mantar. He noted that the 'Cockroach Public Party' has been protesting at Jantar Mantar for several weeks. Information spreads rapidly on social media, but not every post, video, or photo is accurate. It is crucial to check the truth of any information before believing or sharing it.
