Delhi Police Files FIR Against Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Over Protest Incident
FIR Filed Against Congress Leaders
New Delhi: An FIR has been lodged by the Delhi Police against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with their supporters, for allegedly entering Akashvani Bhawan without authorization during a protest on October 6, as reported by officials on Wednesday.
The complaint leading to the FIR claimed that Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, their supporters, and other accompanying MPs entered the premises of Akashvani Bhawan unlawfully, according to police sources.
On Tuesday, both Congress leaders were part of a group of 260 individuals who were detained after staging a sit-in that lasted over eight hours inside Akashvani Bhawan. This occurred after their march towards the Election Commission was halted by law enforcement.
The opposition MPs were voicing their concerns regarding alleged misconduct within the Election Commission, particularly under Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, and raised issues related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, referring to it as 'vote chori'.
Delhi Police stated that the INDIA bloc had intended to march from Parliament House to the Election Commission on Tuesday. However, no request for permission to conduct the march was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Police's office in New Delhi, resulting in the denial of permission.
