Delhi Police Detains 11 Bangladeshi Nationals for Visa Violations

New Delhi, Aug 5: Authorities in Delhi have arrested 11 individuals from Bangladesh for overstaying their double-entry visas, as confirmed by police officials on Wednesday.
This operation was part of a special initiative named Operation VISTA 1.0 (Visa Status Verification), aimed at identifying foreign nationals who have overstayed or violated their visa conditions while in the capital.
A specialized police team was formed, led by Inspector Sandeep Dabas, who oversees the Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) in the Central district, with close supervision from ACP (Operations) Padam Singh Rana.
On the night of Monday to Tuesday, while patrolling the Paharganj area, the police received credible information about certain Bangladeshi nationals whose visas had expired and were residing illegally in Delhi.
Responding to this tip-off, officers apprehended one individual named Nayeem Ahmed from Sylhet, Bangladesh, who was questioned about his residency status. He confirmed his illegal stay in Paharganj.
Nayeem presented his Bangladeshi passport, which was verified on-site. It was found that his passport, issued on March 23, allowed him to stay in India only until June 28.
Despite this, he had remained in the country without any valid extension or legal authorization, breaching immigration laws.
During further questioning, Nayeem revealed that other Bangladeshi nationals were also living illegally in Delhi after their visa expirations.
This information was promptly relayed to the AATS In-Charge, who ordered a dedicated team to investigate and take necessary actions.
Based on Nayeem's information, police conducted a raid at Flat No. 158 in Hauz Rani, Malviya Nagar, where they discovered ten additional Bangladeshi nationals living unlawfully.
All ten were apprehended, and their passports and travel documents were scrutinized. It was confirmed that they had all overstayed their visas and lacked legal authority to remain in India.
The findings were reported back to the AATS In-Charge, who instructed that deportation proceedings be initiated for all 11 individuals in accordance with legal protocols.
The detained individuals include Tahmid Ahmed Tanjid (19), Sajjad Hussain (25), Sabbir Ahmed (28), Nayeem Ahmed (22), MD Kamal Hossian (43), Shakil Ahmed Naim (23), MD Asharaful Haque Mamun (35), Sultan Ahmed Sojib (29), Mujammil Ahmad (30), Bakhtiar Ahmad Johuri (29), and Jakaria (26).
Officials confirmed that all 11 had entered India on double-entry visas, which permitted a maximum stay of 15 days per visit.
However, investigations revealed that they had all remained in India beyond the allowed duration, violating their visa conditions.
Following their arrest, the 11 foreign nationals were presented to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), which initiated legal proceedings and issued Restriction Orders for their detention until the deportation process is completed.
