Delhi Police Denies Protest Permission to Cockroach Janata Party: What’s Behind the Decision?
Delhi Police Blocks CJP's Protest Plans
New Delhi: The Delhi Police has expressed concerns regarding potential law and order disruptions, leading to the refusal of protest permission for the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar on October 10.
In a correspondence directed to Saurav Das, the party's co-convenor, and joint secretary Balkrishna, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for New Delhi indicated that allowing the demonstration could provoke significant public safety issues.
The letter emphasized, "In the interest of the public, the requested permission cannot be granted and is officially denied."
Additionally, the police highlighted that the notification received from the CJP regarding the planned protest was merely an advisory and did not constitute a formal application for permission.
As per the established guidelines, requests for events at Jantar Mantar must be submitted at least ten days prior to the intended date.
The police also referenced past incidents where protest conditions were allegedly breached, including demonstrations extending beyond the allowed time, which had previously led to law enforcement challenges.
These restrictions are in response to the CJP's planned protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, with significant police presence arranged to ensure public order across various areas of the capital.
Kumar is currently under scrutiny for alleged voter-list manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and for reportedly circumventing his colleagues to modify Form 6, a crucial document for voter registration.
