Delhi Police Capture Fugitive Murder Attempt Suspects After 17 Years

Arrest of Long-Term Fugitives

New Delhi, July 27 - The Delhi Police have apprehended two fugitives who had been evading capture for nearly 17 years in connection with an attempted murder case. An official disclosed this information on Monday. The arrests were made by the Crime Branch on July 25 during separate operations in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, and Mayur Vihar, Delhi.

According to a police spokesperson, the suspects have been identified as Iqbal Singh, also known as Palla (46), and Bhupender Singh, referred to as Lovely (47). They were initially arrested in 2007 in relation to an attempted murder case filed at the Patel Nagar police station. After being released on bail, they absconded and were subsequently declared fugitives.

The official noted that the case stemmed from a family dispute, where Bhupender married Iqbal's sister against the wishes of Amarjeet Singh, leading to a prolonged feud between the two families. On April 11, 2007, Iqbal, Bhupender, and their accomplices allegedly attacked Amarjeet Singh in the Patel Nagar area using wooden planks and iron pipes, resulting in severe injuries. During their time on the run, both suspects changed their identities and began working as taxi drivers.

The police reported that Iqbal is implicated in 15 criminal cases, including attempted murder and vehicle theft, across Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Bhupender has six prior cases registered against him.
