Delhi Police Capture Fugitive in 25-Year-Old Murder Case
Arrest of Long-Term Fugitive
The Delhi Police have apprehended a man who had been on the run for 25 years after being convicted of murdering his wife. An official confirmed the arrest.
The suspect has been identified as Yoginder Singh, aged 58. He was found guilty in 1997 for strangling his wife in 1992 and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
According to the officer, Yoginder was released on a four-week parole in June 2000 but failed to return, leading to his status as a fugitive since then. Police reported that he was captured in Ludhiana, Punjab.
To evade capture, Yoginder had been living under a false identity, altering his name, father's name, and residential address, and even obtaining new identification documents.
A police official noted that after residing in several states, including Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, and Karnataka, Yoginder settled in Ludhiana in 2012, where he worked as a carpenter and integrated into the local community by learning Punjabi.
The case dates back to March 15, 1992, when a woman was reported murdered in the village of Pilanji in southwest Delhi. In March 1997, the court convicted Yoginder and sentenced him to life imprisonment. His appeal was dismissed by the Delhi High Court in 2010, leading to him being declared a fugitive.
