Delhi Police Assures No Crackdown on Jantar Mantar Protest Amid Kejriwal's Claims

Police Clarifies Stance on Protest

New Delhi: On Thursday, the Delhi Police confirmed that there are no intentions to disperse the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar, countering assertions made by former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal regarding potential police action against demonstrators.

In a statement shared on X, the police urged Kejriwal to stop disseminating misleading or unverified information, stating, "There is no plan for a crackdown on the ongoing protest tonight as suggested."

Earlier, Kejriwal had expressed concerns on X, stating, "Orders have been issued to close all shops in Connaught Place by 6:30 PM this evening, accompanied by heightened security measures. Are we to witness another attack on students at Jantar Mantar today by the central government?"

In light of the current circumstances, the New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA) recommended that all businesses, including offices, shops, and restaurants in Connaught Place, cease operations by 6:30 PM on Thursday.

The advisory from the traders' association followed a phone call from the chairperson and vice-chairperson of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), who advised the closure of all commercial establishments in the area.
