Stalker Apprehended in Maharashtra

New Delhi, July 16: The cyber unit of the Delhi Police has successfully apprehended a stalker from Maharashtra, who was accused of harassing a woman by posting her images with inappropriate comments on social media and writing her phone number in public areas, including restroom walls.

The suspect, identified as Yasin Sheikh, was arrested in Pune following a complaint lodged by a 38-year-old woman at the North District police station.

The victim reported that Sheikh had been tormenting her by sharing her photos online along with derogatory remarks.

She alleged that he extracted her phone number from her Instagram profile and wrote it in various public locations, including toilet walls and railway platforms in Pune.

Additionally, she claimed that Sheikh created multiple Instagram accounts using her name, posting videos that included her phone number and offensive comments such as "Call girl service." This harassment led to significant mental distress for her, as she received numerous calls from unknown numbers with inappropriate requests.

In response to her complaints, the police team analyzed the call records and IP addresses linked to the accused to locate him.

After conducting several raids, Sheikh, who had been harassing the victim for the past 2-3 years, was taken into custody.

During police interrogation, Sheikh, an auto-rickshaw driver from Pune, exhibited erratic behavior and claimed to be mentally unstable.

He stated that he had a girlfriend who worked with the complainant's husband and had previously asked her to stop working with him.

Sheikh alleged that he attempted to persuade the complainant's husband to distance himself from her, and when his advice was ignored, he sought revenge by attempting to tarnish her reputation.

However, when questioned, the woman denied any romantic involvement with Sheikh, describing him merely as a friend. She mentioned that she had unfriended him on social media due to his obsessive behavior.
