Arrest of Arms Smuggler in Delhi

The Delhi Police have apprehended a suspected arms trafficker in the Shastri Park area. An official reported on Saturday that the suspect was found in possession of two sophisticated pistols and six cartridges.


According to the officer, the individual has been identified as Ankit (26), also known as Munna, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. He is believed to be linked to an interstate smuggling ring.


During interrogation, the suspect revealed that he had started dealing in illegal firearms after being released from prison and was supplying weapons in the Delhi-NCR region. He also mentioned that he obtained firearms from another smuggler known as Sonu, alias Kale.


The police noted that Ankit is a habitual offender with six prior criminal cases against him, including charges of murder, robbery, violations of the Arms Act, and offenses under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act.


Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Aditya Gautam stated that reliable information about an arms trafficker arriving near the Shastri Park Metro Station was received on January 2. Following this, a police team set up a trap in the area.


The suspect arrived in an auto-rickshaw and was identified based on a tip-off. He attempted to evade arrest but was ultimately captured.


During the search, the police recovered two advanced pistols and six cartridges from his possession. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Arms Act, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are working to identify and apprehend other members of the smuggling ring.
