Arrest of Bangladeshi Nationals in Haryana

In Haryana's Mewat district, Delhi police apprehended a family of nine Bangladeshi nationals working at a brick kiln, who had fled after illegally entering India. Officials confirmed the details.

Following a tip-off regarding the illegal immigrants, a police team conducted a surveillance and verification operation on May 23 in the Wazirpur JJ Colony, leading to the detention of one individual.

An officer revealed that during the interrogation, they were able to locate eight other Bangladeshi nationals, including a newborn, who were residing in India without valid documentation. They were arrested in the Bharat Nagar area of northwest Delhi.

The authorities seized a smartphone from them, which contained restricted video calling and chatting applications. This device was reportedly used by the family to communicate with relatives back in Bangladesh.

During questioning, the family disclosed that they had crossed into India illegally via the India-Bangladesh border in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal.

The police noted that they initially claimed to be Indian citizens but were found to be from Kurigram district in Bangladesh. Among those arrested was a 45-day-old infant. All individuals have been handed over to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for deportation proceedings.

The police are continuing their investigation to identify those facilitating such illegal entries and providing local assistance.
