Cab Driver Detained for Allegedly Running Over a Man

The Delhi Police have apprehended a cab driver accused of running over an individual and subsequently abandoning the body in the Preet Vihar area of East Delhi. An official provided this information on Wednesday.

According to police reports, the incident came to light on June 23 when authorities received a tip-off about an unconscious person near a cave temple. Upon arrival, officers discovered the individual deceased, with severe injuries to his head, legs, and arms, along with blood oozing from his nose and mouth.

The deceased was identified as Rohan Kumar, a 28-year-old supervisor contracted with the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) and a resident of Shalimar Garden. He had left for work that morning, as stated by Abhishek Dhania, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for East Delhi.

Following the registration of the case, multiple teams were formed to investigate. The Deputy Commissioner noted that over 150 CCTV cameras were reviewed, revealing a suspicious vehicle near the Ghaziabad border, although only part of the license plate was visible.

Using artificial intelligence and technical surveillance, investigators traced the vehicle back to a logistics company in Gurugram. The suspect, Kapil Kumar, 31, had parked his cab near Shahdara Metro Station and turned off his phone to evade capture. He was later arrested in the Gautam Puri area.

During interrogation, Kapil Kumar admitted to accidentally hitting the victim with his SUV cab. Instead of reporting the incident, he panicked and placed the injured man in his vehicle. Tragically, the victim succumbed to his injuries en route, prompting Kumar to dispose of the body near a temple.
