The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the Delhi-NCR region due to expected dense fog on Saturday morning, which is likely to reduce visibility. The weather agency forecasts that the minimum temperature in the area will range between six to eight degrees Celsius, dipping below Friday's minimum of nine degrees Celsius.
On Saturday, the national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 8.1 degrees Celsius, which is 1.2 degrees higher than the seasonal average, according to the IMD. The department also indicated that a cold wave could occur in some areas of the city between January 3 and January 6. A cold wave is declared when the minimum temperature falls between 4.5 degrees Celsius and 6.5 degrees Celsius below the average.
According to IMD data, the minimum temperature at Safdarjung was recorded at 8.1 degrees Celsius. In Palam, the minimum temperature was 7.9 degrees Celsius, which is 0.9 degrees above normal. Similarly, Lodhi Road reported a temperature of eight degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal, while the Ridge area recorded nine degrees Celsius, 1.3 degrees above normal. In Ayanagar, the minimum temperature was noted at 6.9 degrees Celsius, slightly below normal by 0.1 degrees.
At 9 AM, the relative humidity was recorded at 95 percent. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported that Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 240 at 9 AM, categorizing it as poor. The AQI scale ranges from 0 to 50 for good, 51 to 100 for satisfactory, 101 to 200 for moderate, 201 to 300 for poor, 301 to 400 for very poor, and 401 to 500 for severe.
