Weather Conditions in Delhi-NCR

Since Friday morning, dense clouds have covered the skies over Delhi and its surrounding areas, providing a welcome respite from the intense heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'yellow alert' for moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in the Delhi-NCR region due to the changing weather patterns.


The IMD has forecasted moderate rain throughout the day, with the minimum temperature recorded at 28.1 degrees Celsius. According to the IMD, the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 32 degrees Celsius.


Data released by the IMD indicates that Palam recorded a minimum temperature of 25.9 degrees Celsius, which is 1.9 degrees below normal. In contrast, Lodhi Road saw a minimum of 28.0 degrees Celsius, 1.0 degree above normal, while the Ridge area recorded 24.6 degrees Celsius, 0.9 degrees below normal, and Ayanagar noted 25.8 degrees Celsius, 1.0 degree below normal.


The IMD predicts that the skies will remain generally cloudy throughout the day, with moderate rain expected. Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour are anticipated during the morning, afternoon, evening, and night, along with light to moderate rainfall.


Meanwhile, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported that the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi at 9 AM was recorded at 89, which falls under the 'satisfactory' category.


Understanding AQI Categories

According to the CPCB, the AQI categories are defined as follows: 0 to 50 is considered 'Good', 51 to 100 is 'Satisfactory', 101 to 200 is 'Moderate', 201 to 300 is 'Poor', 301 to 400 is 'Very Poor', and 401 to 500 is classified as 'Severe'.
