Municipal Action in Uttam Nagar
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi took significant action on Sunday by demolishing illegal extensions of a house belonging to a suspect involved in a violent incident that occurred on Holi. According to police sources, officials arrived at JJ Colony with bulldozers and targeted only those parts of the building that were constructed unlawfully. However, there has been no official statement from the corporation regarding this operation.
Background of the Incident
The conflict began on March 4, during Holi, when a water balloon thrown by a child from Tarun's (26) family hit a neighboring woman. This led to a bloody altercation between the two families, resulting in Tarun's death. Police reports indicate that both families had known each other for 50 years, but frequent disputes over parking and littering had strained their relationship.
Police Actions and Arrests
So far, the police have apprehended six individuals identified as Umaruddin, Jummauddin, Kamruddin, Mustaq, Mujafar, and Tahir. Additionally, a minor has also been taken into custody. The police have included charges of murder along with sections of the SC/ST Act in this case. The victim's family had previously demanded that action be taken against the accused similar to the 'Yogi model,' which includes demolishing their illegal homes.
Tension in the Area
Following the incident, significant tension erupted in the locality. On Friday, an angry mob vandalized several vehicles and set fires. To prevent the situation from escalating and to maintain law and order, a heavy deployment of Delhi police and paramilitary forces has been established in the area. Currently, the situation is under control, and police are monitoring all activities closely.
