Delhi Minister Reports Positive Outcomes from GRAP-IV Measures Amidst Adverse Weather

Positive Impact of GRAP-IV Measures

On Monday, Delhi Minister Majinder Singh Sirsa announced that the stringent measures implemented under GRAP-IV have yielded encouraging results, despite ongoing adverse weather conditions in the national capital due to a western disturbance. During a press conference, Sirsa noted that the weather in Delhi has been extremely poor in recent days, prompting the government to enforce strict restrictions. He mentioned that the restrictions under GRAP-IV have been in place for the past four days, and positive outcomes have been observed.

Crackdown on Polluting Industries

Warning polluting industries, Sirsa stated that sealing actions against identified violators have commenced. He emphasized that factories identified as polluters will be sealed without prior notice, as they have already been given multiple chances. Furthermore, industries that fail to apply for OCEM by the October 31 deadline will also face immediate sealing.

Campaign Against Vehicle Pollution

The minister highlighted a comprehensive campaign aimed at curbing vehicle emissions. He reported that over the last four days, 212,332 Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC) have been inspected, with nearly 10,000 vehicles failing the checks. Sirsa also mentioned receiving complaints that some private companies are not fully adhering to the work-from-home advisory under GRAP-IV. He warned that strict action would be taken against any company found in violation.

Sealing Unauthorized Industries and Environmental Efforts

Sirsa informed that the Deputy Commissioners of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have begun sealing unauthorized industries in collaboration with the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC). To reduce pollution levels, street cleaning is being conducted at night, and approximately 35,000 metric tons of waste are being removed daily from Delhi's garbage dumps. Regarding environmental conservation, Sirsa stated that the government is accelerating efforts to revive old water bodies with the assistance of the DDA and the Delhi Revenue Department. He expressed the goal of reviving at least 50 percent of the water bodies that have completely disappeared over the years, despite challenges like encroachment.
