Minister's Assurance Amid Demolition Operations

On Wednesday, Delhi's Minister Ashish Sood assured that those responsible for throwing stones at police and municipal officials during a demolition drive near the Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque at Turkman Gate would face consequences. Speaking to the media, Sood mentioned that the operation to remove encroachments around the mosque is ongoing. He described the incident as unfortunate, emphasizing that there was a court order against the commercial establishments in the area. The actions being taken are in accordance with this court directive, and halting them would be inappropriate. Some individuals have already been arrested, and justice will be served.


Police Detain Suspects Following Stone-Pelting Incident

In connection with the stone-pelting incident, Delhi police have detained five individuals from the Chandni Mahal area. According to police reports, around 25 to 30 people threw stones at the police and municipal officials who arrived with JCB machines to remove illegal encroachments as per the court's order. Five police officers sustained minor injuries during the altercation and received treatment at a nearby hospital, as confirmed by Central District Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Nidhin Valsan.


DCP Provides Details on the Incident

DCP Valsan explained, "Last night, MCD staff arrived with JCB machines. We had informed the public about the court's order. Approximately 150 people gathered to see what was happening. We advised them to disperse, but around 25 to 30 individuals began throwing stones at the police. We had to use force to push them back before commencing the demolition. During the stone-pelting, five officers were injured, but their injuries are not serious."


Investigation Underway

DCP Valsan further stated, "We are reviewing CCTV footage, and drone cameras were deployed yesterday. Videos are circulating on social media, and we are investigating all of these. Any individuals found guilty will face appropriate action."
