Metro Station Closures in New Delhi

New Delhi: Due to security concerns related to an upcoming protest at Jantar Mantar, the entry and exit gates at 57 stations of the Delhi Metro will be closed starting 9 PM on Friday until further notice.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) confirmed the closures on Friday, indicating that these restrictions will remain in effect until October 10. However, interchange services will still be operational at all affected stations, except for the New Delhi station.

Key stations impacted by this closure include Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, and Kashmere Gate, along with Janpath, Mandi House, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Indraprastha, ITO, Delhi Gate, Khan Market, Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, Hauz Khas, and INA.

Furthermore, stations such as Shaheen Bagh, Jamia Millia Islamia, Okhla Vihar, Kalindi Kunj, Lajpat Nagar, Ashram, Sarai Kale Khan-Nizamuddin, Welcome, Shahdara, Rithala, Rohini, Azadpur, Jangpura, and Shivaji Stadium will also have their gates closed.

This decision follows a request from the Delhi Police to the DMRC, citing concerns over potential "unruly movement" towards sensitive areas during the protests scheduled for October 10.

In a letter dated October 8, the Delhi Police also mentioned that the frequency of metro trains at the affected stations might be reduced on Saturday, depending on the circumstances.
