Delhi Metro Enhances Anti-Pollution Initiatives Amid Air Quality Concerns
Strengthening Pollution Control Measures
New Delhi, Dec 5: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has ramped up its efforts to combat pollution in the capital by initiating a series of targeted actions aimed at minimizing dust and enhancing cleanliness around its construction sites, as reported by officials on Friday.
This initiative is particularly crucial as Delhi faces ongoing challenges with poor air quality and escalating pollution levels.
DMRC has mobilized teams to various project locations to mitigate dust emissions and improve the maintenance of adjacent areas.
These initiatives encompass cleaning construction sites, eliminating accumulated dust from roads, clearing litter from sidewalks and central medians, and ensuring proper waste disposal.
A significant cleanliness drive was executed on Friday between Azadpur and Ashok Vihar, which included extensive cleaning operations, restoration of damaged footpaths, road repairs, and beautification of road medians.
Engineers from DMRC performed comprehensive inspections of both construction sites and nearby roads to ensure that materials were properly covered and that wheel-wash facilities for vehicles leaving the sites were operational.
Officials from DMRC stated that these initiatives are being implemented across all construction corridors in response to the growing pollution challenges in the city.
These actions complement existing strategies employed by the corporation to reduce dust and emissions.
Currently, DMRC oversees approximately 19 km of city roads, which have been temporarily taken over to facilitate metro construction.
These roads have already undergone repairs to mitigate their contribution to local pollution.
To further manage dust levels, over 100 anti-smog guns have been installed at construction sites, metro stations, and various office buildings.
The Environment Department of DMRC is conducting daily inspections to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has instructed all governmental and civic bodies to rigorously enforce environmental standards.
DMRC has reiterated its commitment to full compliance, highlighting that pollution control is a top priority during its ongoing expansion projects.
