Delhi Metro Closes Key Stations Amid Security Concerns
Emergency Closure of Major Metro Stations
On Monday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced the emergency closure of five crucial metro stations in the capital, citing security reasons. This decision was made in response to a protest march organized by the Cockroach Public Party (CJP) coinciding with the first day of the Parliament's monsoon session, aimed at maintaining law and order.
List of Closed Stations and Security Alert
DMRC shared an official update on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), indicating that, following directives from security agencies, the following five metro stations will remain completely closed to passengers until further notice:
- Rajiv Chowk
- Central Secretariat
- Patel Chowk
- Janpath
- Sewa Tirth
No entry will be permitted for passengers at these stations, and trains will not stop there. The closure of major interchange stations like Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat is causing significant inconvenience for millions of daily commuters in the Delhi-NCR region.
Protests for Educational Reforms
It is noteworthy that the CJP has called for a 'Parliament March' on the first day of the monsoon session to protest against major reforms and irregularities in the country's education sector. The demonstrators are attempting to march towards the Parliament building.
Unauthorized March and Heightened Security Measures
Security officials and the Delhi Police have made it clear that no prior permission was obtained from the organizers for this protest or march. Extensive security arrangements have been implemented to prevent any unauthorized access or chaos in the high-security VIP area. Along with the closure of these metro stations, a heavy police presence and barricading have been deployed on the roads surrounding the Parliament.
