Metro Station Closures Due to Protests
In response to protests by the Cockroach People's Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has declared the closure of 18 metro stations starting from July 25. According to a post on X, DMRC stated, "The metro stations listed below will remain closed from 7:30 AM tomorrow (July 25, 2026) until further notice. However, interchange facilities will still be available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat."

Previously, on Friday, 17 metro stations were closed for the third consecutive day, including Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seva Tirth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Shivaji Stadium, and Jhandewalan.
Due to security measures related to the protests, the same stations were also closed for extended periods on Wednesday and Thursday, causing inconvenience for office-goers, students, and other commuters in central Delhi.
On Thursday, the entry gates of three stations - Central Secretariat, Mandi House, and Rajiv Chowk - were reopened late in the evening after being closed for nearly 14 hours, while the other stations remained shut. Many commuters had to alter their travel plans, resorting to alternative routes or relying on road transport due to heavy traffic jams.
Earlier, on Monday, five metro stations - Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, and Seva Tirth - were closed for several hours due to heightened security measures in light of the protests. Frequent closures have been causing daily commuting difficulties in central areas of the capital. Restrictions on traffic in Janpath, Jantar Mantar, and surrounding areas have led to further delays during peak hours.
Central Cabinet Approves Bill to Prevent Paper Leaks
The Central Cabinet has approved a draft bill that proposes strict penalties for cases of paper leaks. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Parliament complex, and the bill is set to be presented in Parliament next week. The bill will amend the 'Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024,' proposing up to 10 years of imprisonment and fines of up to 10 crore rupees for organized paper leaks.
