Delhi LG Shows Support for Capitals in IPL 2026 Match
Delhi LG Supports Home Team at Arun Jaitley Stadium
On Saturday, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, attended the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match at Arun Jaitley Stadium, where the Delhi Capitals faced off against the Punjab Kings. Dressed in a Delhi Capitals jersey, he spoke to the media following the first innings.
LG Sandhu's Encouragement for Delhi Capitals
During his interaction with the media, LG Sandhu voiced his support for the Delhi Capitals, emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship and cricket. He stated, "I believe we (Delhi Capitals) have set an impressive score. I hope Delhi secures a victory in this match. Sportsmanship and cricket should prevail, and they are indeed winning."
Rahul's Record-Breaking Performance Leads Delhi to Victory
In the match, the Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to bat first. Despite an early loss of Pathum Nissanka (11), a remarkable partnership of 220 runs between KL Rahul and Nitish Rana (who scored 91 off 44 balls, including 11 fours and four sixes) propelled DC to a total of 264 runs for 2 wickets in 20 overs.
KL Rahul Achieves Historic IPL Milestone
KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 152 runs off 67 balls, marking the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history. He surpassed Abhishek Sharma's previous record of 141 runs, achieved last year against the Punjab Kings. Rahul became the third player to reach the 150-run milestone in IPL, following Chris Gayle (175 not out) and Brendon McCullum (158 not out). With this performance, DC set a daunting target of 265 runs for the Punjab Kings, who had remained unbeaten in the tournament until this match.
Punjab Bowlers Struggle Against Delhi's Batting
The Punjab bowlers had a challenging day, with Arshdeep Singh (1 wicket for 49 runs in 4 overs) and Xavier Bartlett (1 wicket for 69 runs in 4 overs) being the only ones to take wickets. Notably, Yuzvendra Chahal, usually a reliable bowler, went wicketless, allowing 42 runs in his four-over spell. Currently, DC holds the sixth position in the points table with three wins out of six matches, while PBKS leads with five victories in six matches.
