Delhi's New Initiative Against Air Pollution
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta of Delhi, along with ministers Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra, and Ashish Sood, has officially launched the Air Pollution Mitigation Plan 2025. During the event, Gupta emphasized the proximity of Environment Day and highlighted that air pollution is a collective concern for all residents of Delhi. For years, the city has been grappling with air quality issues that have troubled its citizens. She expressed a vision for a clean, green, and healthy Delhi, stating her satisfaction with the comprehensive plan developed by the environmental department and the environment minister.
Gupta announced that Delhi will soon witness its first artificial rain through cloud seeding. She mentioned that to combat pollution effectively, the government will sign memorandums of understanding with various scientific organizations that will employ their latest innovations to assist in the fight against pollution. For instance, a memorandum has already been signed with IIT Kanpur to initiate a pilot project focused on cloud seeding and artificial rain, which is expected to commence shortly.
Furthermore, Gupta stated that it will be mandatory to install anti-smog guns on all tall buildings, particularly those exceeding 3000 meters, including commercial structures, malls, and hotels, to reduce dust levels across the city. The Chief Minister also announced that starting November 1, only BS-6, CNG, and electric vehicles will be permitted to enter Delhi. Additionally, she noted that construction projects covering more than 500 square meters must register on the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) portal.
