Delhi Implements New Vehicle Regulations to Combat Air Pollution
New Vehicle Regulations Announced
Delhi's Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, has announced that starting November 1, only BS-VI (Bharat Stage 6), CNG, or electric commercial vehicles will be permitted to enter the city. This initiative is part of the newly launched Air Pollution Mitigation Plan 2025.
During a press conference, Gupta stated, "From November 1, 2025, any vehicle entering Delhi must comply with BS6, CNG, or be an electric commercial vehicle."
Advanced Monitoring Systems
The Chief Minister revealed plans to install Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at all entry points into Delhi. These cameras will identify vehicles that are deemed end-of-life and contribute to pollution. As soon as such vehicles are detected, they will be traced and stopped. Additionally, these cameras will be placed at petrol stations to further monitor and manage pollution levels.

Vision for a Cleaner Delhi
Gupta emphasized the Delhi Environment Ministry's draft plan, aiming for a "clean, green, and healthy Delhi." She remarked, "With Environment Day approaching, air pollution is a pressing issue for all of us. We have long suffered from this problem, and our vision is a Clean Delhi, Green Delhi, Healthy Delhi. I am pleased with the comprehensive Air Pollution Mitigation Plan 2025 drafted by our Environment Department."
Innovative Solutions for Pollution Control
The Chief Minister announced that Delhi will soon experience its first artificial rain through cloud seeding techniques. She mentioned, "Very soon, Delhi will have its first artificial rain through cloud seeding."
To further combat pollution, the government plans to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with scientific organizations to implement innovative solutions. An MoU has already been established with IIT Kanpur for a pilot project on cloud seeding and artificial rain.
Additional Pollution Control Measures
Gupta also revealed plans to install "mist sprayers" in pollution-prone areas to manage dust particles. She stated, "It will be mandatory to install anti-smog guns on all high-rise buildings, particularly commercial structures over 3,000 meters, including malls and hotels, to reduce dust pollution across Delhi."
Moreover, the government aims to launch the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign on June 5, with a goal of planting 7 million saplings this year. Gupta expressed, "We must undertake large-scale plantation efforts for a greener Delhi. Our target is to plant 70 lakh saplings this year, ensuring that the air quality improves so that people prefer to stay in Delhi rather than leave."
