Court Takes Action to Safeguard Activist's Health

New Delhi: On Thursday, the Delhi High Court mandated that authorities closely monitor the health of activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently engaged in an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. The court emphasized the importance of life and instructed that Wangchuk's health be assessed daily by government medical professionals.

Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia highlighted the value of every individual's life, stating that Wangchuk's condition must be regularly evaluated.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing both the Central and Delhi governments, acknowledged the significance of life and expressed no objections to conducting regular health check-ups for Wangchuk.

The court remarked, "We recognize that every citizen's life is invaluable, and all necessary measures should be taken by government officials to protect it."

The judges commended the Solicitor General's position and ordered that Wangchuk's medical status be monitored daily, ensuring that any required medical assistance is provided.

This directive came in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) expressing concerns regarding Wangchuk's health.

The Cockroach Janta Party has been protesting for over 25 days, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan due to alleged discrepancies in the NEET examination.

Wangchuk has been part of this protest since June 28 and has maintained his indefinite fast since that date.
