Addressing the Stray Dog Issue in Delhi

Rekha Gupta, the Chief Minister of Delhi, stated on Monday that the issue of stray dogs in the national capital has reached a 'serious' level. She assured that her administration will soon implement a comprehensive policy in line with the latest directives from the Supreme Court to address this problem. This announcement came just hours after the Supreme Court ordered authorities in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) to capture all stray dogs within eight weeks, ensuring that none are returned to the streets.

During a press conference, Gupta expressed that residents of Delhi are fed up with the presence of stray dogs. 'We have been discussing this issue for a long time. The Supreme Court's directives are significant. We want to provide relief to the public. The problem has become severe, and we will create a policy to offer assistance,' she stated. She further emphasized that the government's approach will be 'planned and systematic' to ensure public safety and compliance with court orders.

Gupta's commitment follows several meetings held by her administration regarding this issue, including a recent promise from Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra to adopt a 'humane policy' to tackle the crisis. The Chief Minister stressed that the forthcoming plan will be practical and executable, taking into account the safety of residents, especially children and the elderly, as well as the need for proper shelter and care for the captured dogs.
