Delhi's Initiative for Renewable Energy

Delhi Government Introduces Subsidy for Rooftop Solar Panels

In a significant move to promote renewable energy, the Delhi government has approved an additional subsidy of ₹30,000 for the installation of 3 kilowatt (kW) rooftop solar panels. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. This subsidy will be in addition to the ₹78,000 provided by the central government's PM Surya Ghar scheme, bringing the total financial assistance for a 3 kW solar system in Delhi to ₹1.08 lakh.

State Top-Up under PM Surya Ghar Scheme

The Delhi government has launched the 'PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana State Top-Up' to enhance the effectiveness of the central initiative. Under this scheme, residents can receive a maximum additional subsidy of ₹30,000 at a rate of ₹10,000 per kilowatt. This will enable Delhi residents to install solar panels without any upfront costs, potentially saving an average of ₹4,200 on their monthly electricity bills.

Financial Assistance and Loan Options

To facilitate the remaining cost of approximately ₹90,000 for solar panel installation, the Delhi government has partnered with banks and financial institutions. This collaboration will provide citizens with accessible loan options, allowing them to install solar panels without initial investment. This initiative is particularly beneficial for middle-class families struggling with rising electricity costs.

Budget and Goals of the Scheme

The Delhi government has allocated a budget of ₹50 crore for this initiative, aiming to install rooftop solar systems in 230,000 residential units over the next three years. This effort will not only contribute to environmental conservation but also propel Delhi towards cleaner and greener energy.

Eligibility and Application Process

To benefit from this scheme, applicants must be residents of Delhi with a valid electricity connection. Additionally, there should be sufficient space on the rooftop for solar panel installation. Citizens can register for the application process on the official website of the 'PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana'. After registration, authorized vendors will install the solar panels, and the subsidy amount will be directly transferred to the beneficiary's bank account.

Environmental Benefits and Energy Independence

Installing solar panels will not only lead to savings on electricity bills but also provide environmental benefits. Solar energy is a clean and renewable source that helps reduce carbon emissions. Furthermore, the establishment of solar panels will empower citizens to achieve energy independence, alleviating issues related to power outages.
