Financial Support Boost for Kanwar Camps
New Delhi, July 27 - Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Monday that the Delhi government has decided to raise the financial assistance for large Kanwar camps from the current ₹11 lakh to ₹15 lakh, while also continuing to provide free electricity up to 1,200 units. According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), this decision comes in response to the increasing number of devotees, inflation, and the rising operational costs of the Kanwar camps.
The Chief Minister stated that the aid for camps operating over an area of 20,000 square feet for six to twelve days will be increased from ₹11 lakh to ₹15 lakh. Similarly, for camps of three to five days in the same area, the assistance will rise from ₹6 lakh to ₹9 lakh. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on Kanwar committees and enhance the facilities available to devotees.
Gupta also mentioned that the assistance for all other categories of Kanwar camps will see an increase. For camps spanning 15,001 to 20,000 square feet operating for three to five days, the aid will be raised from ₹4 lakh to ₹8 lakh, and for those lasting six to twelve days, from ₹7 lakh to ₹9 lakh. According to the statement, camps covering 10,001 to 15,000 square feet will receive ₹6 lakh instead of ₹4 lakh for three to five days, and ₹8 lakh instead of ₹7 lakh for six to twelve days.
Furthermore, for camps in the 5,001 to 10,000 square feet range, the assistance for three-day camps will increase from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹3 lakh, while for six to twelve days, it will rise from ₹4 lakh to ₹5 lakh. The statement also noted that for smaller camps of up to 5,000 square feet, the aid will be increased from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹2 lakh for three to five days, and from ₹2 lakh to ₹3 lakh for six to twelve days. Gupta remarked, “The scale of the Kanwar Yatra in Delhi is continuously expanding.
In 2024, there were 170 Kanwar camps, and this number surged to 308 in 2025.” The government confirmed that Kanwar committees will continue to receive free electricity up to 1,200 units. It also stated that electricity distribution companies BSES and TPDDL will ensure timely electricity connections and complete all necessary formalities before the journey begins. Gupta added that to avoid delays in grant disbursement to Kanwar committees, the process will be simplified, with both advance and final installments being issued directly from the respective District Magistrate (DM) offices.
