Budget Revision for Urban Development Initiatives

The Delhi government has revised its budget allocation to enhance funding for critical sectors such as urban development, transportation, education, and the rejuvenation of the Yamuna River. The total allocation has been increased from ₹28,115 crores to ₹30,248 crores.


Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who also oversees the finance ministry, presented a supplementary grant request for the fiscal year 2025-26 in the assembly, which was passed unanimously.


According to the revised estimates (RE), the total allocation for plans, programs, and projects for the fiscal year 2025-26 has been adjusted down from ₹59,300 crores to ₹57,850 crores. However, capital expenditure has seen an increase from ₹28,115 crores to ₹30,248 crores.


As per the documents from the Delhi government, the revised allocation for the transportation sector has risen from ₹12,952 crores to ₹16,024 crores. The education sector's allocation has also been boosted from ₹19,291 crores to ₹20,702 crores, now accounting for 21% of the total ₹1 lakh crore budget.


The revised estimates for the housing and urban development sector have been increased from ₹10,694 crores to ₹11,754 crores. Additionally, the allocation for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been raised from ₹2,929.66 crores to ₹5,046.66 crores.


The amount allocated to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has been increased from ₹10,397 crores to ₹11,428 crores. The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has seen its loan amount rise from ₹2,500 crores to ₹3,500 crores, while the allocation for the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has been increased from ₹2,780 crores to ₹3,433 crores. Furthermore, subsidies for electricity distribution companies have been raised from ₹3,600 crores to ₹4,000 crores.
