Delhi Government Ends Hybrid Work Policy for Employees
Delhi Government's Decision on Work Policy
The Delhi government has officially terminated its temporary 'Hybrid Work Policy' for public sector employees. This decision rescinds the previous order that allowed employees to work from home on designated days each week. According to officials, this move follows reports of a ceasefire between Iran and the United States, which has led to reduced tensions in the Middle East and an improvement in global crude oil conditions. Consequently, all government employees are now required to return to their offices on a regular basis.
The hybrid work system was initially introduced as a significant effort to reduce fuel consumption in the capital.
Background of the Hybrid Work Initiative
This initiative was launched in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for fuel conservation amid global uncertainties related to the situation in the Middle East. Under this policy, government employees were permitted to work from home two days a week to help decrease the usage of petrol and diesel.
Changes in Office Hours and Fuel Usage
Alongside the work-from-home regulations, several other changes were implemented at that time. Office hours were adjusted, fuel allocation for government vehicles was reduced by approximately 20%, and some departments downsized the size of their vehicle convoys to save fuel.
Return to Regular Office Hours
With the recent order's withdrawal, government employees will revert to their standard working hours, which are from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM. However, the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) will continue to operate under its existing schedule of 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, as no changes have been made to it.
Temporary Nature of the Hybrid Work Arrangement
Officials had previously described the hybrid work arrangement as a temporary measure lasting 90 days, aimed at managing fuel demand, promoting public transport usage, and encouraging energy-saving practices during a time of global uncertainty.
