Severe Cold Hits Delhi

On Saturday, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 4.2 degrees Celsius, which is 2.7 degrees below the seasonal average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This marked the coldest morning of the current winter season since 2024.


Previously, January 15, 2024, was noted as the coldest day in recent years, with a minimum temperature of 3.3 degrees Celsius.


State-wise data revealed that the Safdarjung Observatory recorded 4.2 degrees Celsius, Palam at 4.5 degrees Celsius, Lodhi Road at 4.7 degrees Celsius, Ridge Station at 5.3 degrees Celsius, and Ayanagar also at 4.5 degrees Celsius.


The IMD has forecasted dense fog for Saturday. At 9 AM, the relative humidity was recorded at 100 percent. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality in Delhi was categorized as very poor, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 366 at the same time.


The CPCB classifies AQI levels as follows: 0-50 is considered 'Good', 51-100 is 'Satisfactory', 101-200 is 'Moderate', 201-300 is 'Poor', 301-400 is 'Very Poor', and 401-500 is 'Severe'.
