Delhi witnessed its coldest morning of the season as temperatures plummeted to 5.8 degrees Celsius. According to meteorological reports, this drop is 1.1 degrees below the normal for this time of year, attributed to cold northern winds blowing in from the Himalayan region.
The previous low for this season was recorded on December 20, when temperatures fell to 6.1 degrees Celsius. On New Year's Eve, the minimum temperature was noted at 6.4 degrees Celsius.
Forecast for the Week
The severe cold is expected to persist throughout the week, although the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a slight increase in maximum temperatures starting Friday. By January 14, clear skies with light to moderate fog are anticipated in the mornings.
Improvement in Air Quality
This morning, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 276, a significant improvement from Wednesday's 336. The 24-hour average AQI for Delhi on Wednesday was 289.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), an AQI of 0 to 50 is classified as 'Good', 51 to 100 as 'Satisfactory', 101 to 200 as 'Moderate', 201 to 300 as 'Poor', 301 to 400 as 'Very Poor', and 401 to 500 as 'Severe'.
Temperature Details
The India Meteorological Department confirmed that the minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 5.8 degrees Celsius, which is 1.1 degrees below the seasonal average. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 16 degrees Celsius, with dense fog predicted for Friday and Saturday.
