Delhi Court Sends Domestic Worker to Custody in IRS Officer's Daughter Murder Case
Court Proceedings in High-Profile Murder Case
On Thursday, a Delhi court ordered a 19-year-old domestic worker, Rahul Meena, to be held in police custody for four days in connection with the murder of a senior Indian Revenue Service officer's daughter. Chief Judicial Magistrate Deepika Thakran approved the Delhi police's request for custody to facilitate questioning of the accused. The victim, a 22-year-old graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology and the daughter of a senior IRS official, was allegedly raped and murdered at her residence in Kailash Hills, South East Delhi, on Wednesday morning.
Details of the Allegations
Authorities revealed that Meena, who previously worked as a domestic helper in the victim's home, is also accused of being involved in a separate sexual assault case in Alwar just hours before the crime in Delhi. The investigation is ongoing. During the court session, the magistrate inquired about the injuries noted in the medical-legal report, to which the accused claimed he was injured while descending from the roof. When further questioned, Meena admitted to making a mistake and committing the crime. He explained that he needed the victim's fingerprints to open a locker.
Sequence of Events
The investigation revealed that the accused raped the victim while she was unconscious. He then dragged her down the stairs to another room where a locker was located. Meena attempted to unlock the biometric lock using the victim's fingerprints, but it did not open. Subsequently, he used a screwdriver to break into the locker, stealing cash and jewelry. However, the court clarified that this would not be considered a formal confession. The Delhi police filed a remand application for four days of custody to investigate this heinous crime further.
Ongoing Investigations
The prosecution stated that they are also investigating a similar case against Meena in Alwar. The tragic incident involving the 22-year-old daughter of a senior IRS officer occurred in the upscale area of Kailash Hills, where she was allegedly raped and murdered. Reports indicate that Meena had worked as a domestic assistant in the IRS officer's residence for approximately eight months before being dismissed about six weeks ago.
